The Slow Sauna Guide: Bruton

This small Somerset market town has a hot little sauna.

Bruton's more know as a destination for foodies and art lovers, with it's Michelin starred restaurants and Hauser and Wirth's rural art gallery - so Wildshed sauna is a wonderful addition. It's tucked away near the allotments, close to the entrance to Hauser and Wirth with views from the bench to the iconic Dovecote building.

Getting There on public transport

Easy breasy little 11 minute train ride from Frome

Bruton station is on the Reading to Taunton line, with a couple of direct trains daily from London Waterloo and Clapham Junction.

From the train station it's just 6 minutes walk. Follow the signs for H+W and you'll walk right past it.

What's the experience like?

The sauna is clean and modern with a little covered area inside to hang your towel and land your sliders. It's beautifully built with nice high benches and gives good steam. The view from the wide window is rather special and the site is suitably quirky.

You'll get changed in a greenhouse (with privacy screening). Another greenhouse houses their office! Cool down options are urban ice tribe tubs, or a cold shower. They have some very cute branded enamel cups and a drinks station with some cucumber or lemon water available.

I love that there's a fire bowl here to gather around, or to pause before or after your sauna session so you can acclimatise slowly. It can be a bit harsh switching mode from commute to relax, or to hop directly into busy-ness post sauna so this is a much needed detail. Staff and lovely and the often host events with sauna masters.

There's a compost loo on site, personally I love a compost loo, but some people appreciate the forewarning!
